Aldones is one of the minor characters in The King In Yellow, known only from a passing reference to a name. Fleshed out somewhat more fully in other sources, he is usually regarded as a king.
The Repairer of Reputations[]
Narrator-protagonist Hildred Castaigne records Mr. Wilde as recounting a tale that "led Vance along the ramifications of the Imperial family, to Uoht and Thale, from Naotalba and Phantom of Truth, to Aldones, and then tossing aside his manuscript and notes, he began the wonderful story of the Last King" – this is the sole reference to the name in the original source material, where it is often taken to mean a representative of the imperial dynasty to which Castaigne wishes to yoke his own claim to rulership.
The Encyclopedia Cthulhiana says...[]
...two things, dependant on the version of the play you're reading from. Either he is simply one of several "claimants to the throne of Yhtill" or he is "the founder of the city of Hastur's ruling dynasty."
More Light[]
In the script given in this story, Aldones was the last reigning king of Hastur and possibly the husband of Cassilda. It is stated that Aldones means 'father' in the language of Hastur, so it may just be a reference to his role as father of the royal family and not his given name.
Carcosa Story About Hali[]
Here, he was the last king of the Immemorial City prior to an interregnum and the coming of The King In Yellow. A curse fell upon him. It is possible he was overthrown, with his rule being followed by a period known as The Terror.
