The motif of the Dark Tower is derived from the ballad of Childe Rowland. It features in Stephen King's Dark Tower series as the ultimate goal of Roland the Gunslinger and the abode of The Crimson King and has appeared in the stories To The Tower, Childe Rowland (in which it is the entrance to the Turning City) and Dark Tower Dream (the latter appeared in a volume of the Dark Tower series of Atlantean Publishing chapbooks). A parallel may be drawn between it and the soaring towers of Carcosa.
