Origins of The Play
It is claimed that Thom Ryng translated the play from an original written in French in 1890, as Le Roi en Jaune, although this contradicts evidence that the play was actually translated into French from another language.
The play features the following characters :

- Aldones, A Prince
- Bicree, A Guard
- Bremchas, A Guard
- Camilla, A Princess
- Naotalba, High Priest of Yhtill
- Thale, A Prince

- Guards of the Watch
The play takes place over "Two days in the distant past or distant future" "in the city of Yhtill, on the world of Hastur.
